OLIVEROS-OLIVEROS, Rafael Ricardo; AVILA-CAMELO, Diana Carolina  e  QUIJANO-MARTINEZ, María-Cristina. Neuropsychological intervention of metalinguistic skills a contribution to reading difficulties. Neuropsicologia Latinoamericana [online]. 2024, vol.16, n.3, pp.81-91.  Epub 05-Dez-2025. ISSN 2075-9479.  https://doi.org/10.5579/rnl.2024.0882.

The problems in learning to read are due to multiple factors, which have increased post-pandemic. The aim of this study was to strengthen the metalinguistic skills related to reading in a 9-year-old child, in second grade of primary school, attending a public school, in socio-economic stratum 2, residing in the city of Villavicencio (Colombia). The efficient use of cognitive processes of planning, attention, simultaneous and sequential processing, inherent to the PASS method (Planning, Attention, Simultaneous, Sequential), was implemented. This cognitive approach is applied in cases of non-fluent, inaccurate, or non-comprehensive reading. The intervention was conducted in person over 12 sessions of 90 minutes each, once a week for 3 months with school support, through the Individual Plan of Reasonable Adjustments (PIAR). Before the intervention, the PROLEC-R was used for assessment, and subsequent pre-, during-, and post-measurements were taken to identify the progress in the process associated with the application of the method and adjustments according to the progress. The child improved performance in the recognition of phonemes, syllables, words, and pseudowords, as well as in reading accuracy and speed. It is identified that the application of the PASS method, allows the strengthening of metalinguistic skills, enhances lexical, syllabic, and phonological awareness, which facilitates reading accuracy in a 9-year-old child with specific reading disorder.
