ABSTRACT This study aimed to conduct a sociodemographic survey of university students in psychic suffering who sought care at a Psychology school-service in the interior of the state of Pernambuco between 2017 and 2019; identify the main demands; and list psychosocial risk factors. We analyzed 266 documents (pre-registration records, care forms and medical records), not properly filled in, observing: mean age 24.3 years, majority of female students (62%) and health programs from the institution (73%). The most sought-after service was the Psychological Service (52%). The main complaints, demands and risk factors were intra- and inter-personal difficulties (46.5%), academic life issues (13.3%) and psychopathological behaviors or disorders (11.30%). It was mainly concluded the need for: training Psychology students to fill in documents; implementation of computerized systems to favor research in outdated school services; besides the implementation of public policies focused on mental health prevention and promotion for university students in the region.
