PAIAO, Ariane Voltolini and ANTUNEZ, Andrés Eduardo Aguirre. Time experience and life satisfaction: a case study in psychotherapy. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2024, vol.16, e251462. Epub Nov 25, 2024. ISSN 2175-2591. https://doi.org/10.26823/rnufen.v16i01.25146.
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between temporal experience and life satisfaction. A patient underwent 30 sessions of online psychotherapy, using the phenomenon-structural method, and answered the life satisfaction scale in sessions 1, 15 and 30. At the beginning of the sessions, her experience of time was accelerated. The present seemed like a means of sacrificing for the future, devoid of authentic meaning. Towards the end, the patient seemed to be more connected to the present and some meaning began to be attributed to the future. The scores on the life satisfaction scale were 18 (slightly dissatisfied), 24 (slightly satisfied) and 29 (satisfied), respectively. The patient’s satisfaction with life increased as her time experience changed. Thus, it can be concluded that temporal experience is related to life satisfaction and can be an important diagnostic and therapeutic resource for clinical psychology.
