Resumen

MORAES, Roney Silva de  y  ERICEIRA, Ronald Clay dos Santos. Secularity(ies): university students’ perspectives on the presence of the catholic and protestant religions in the Brazilian political environment. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2024, vol.16, e251484.  Epub 22-Nov-2024. ISSN 2175-2591.  https://doi.org/10.26823/rnufen.v16i01.25148.

Secularity is, directly or indirectly, present in debates across various spheres of society. In this context, the present study aimed to understand the perspectives of Catholic, Protestant, and non-religious university students regarding the concept of secularity. This is an exploratory qualitative study that utilized the Google Forms platform to facilitate data collection through a questionnaire. A total of 30 responses were obtained, divided equally among 10 Catholics, 10 Protestants, and 10 non-religious participants. The study concludes, based on a comparative data analysis conducted through Content Analysis, that interpretations of secularity are grounded in diverse axioms linked to socio-historical perspectives and religious beliefs. This challenges the notion of neutrality advocated as a requirement for political reflection. The importance of this work is highlighted by the absence of psychosociological studies addressing secularity and political participation.
