GOMES, Mairla Costa Ferreira; GOULART, Samira Meletti da Silva e FEIJOO, Ana Maria Lopez Calvo de. Binge Eating in Contemporary Times: Phenomenological-Hermeneutic Reflection. Rev. NUFEN [online]. 2024, vol.16, e253436. Epub 22-Nov-2024. ISSN 2175-2591. https://doi.org/10.26823/rnufen.v16i01.25343.
In order to understand the factual orientations of contemporaneity that contribute to the unveiling of the eating way defined as binge eating disorder, and to reflect on this behavior beyond the biomedical perspective, the present study carried out a narrative review of the literature through a search in the databases BVS, LILACS and SCIELO, between the years 2013 and 2023, finding 8 articles that addressed binge eating in the current historical context. The complexity of the theme was noted, involving aesthetic standards, health, consumerism, the media, the valorization of performance and productivity, and the current pace of life. An articulation was made with the thought of the philosopher Martin Heidegger (1954) about the modern historical horizon, featured as age of technique, whose phenomenological-hermeneutic perspective allows to broaden the discussion about contemporary existence, contributing to other clinical management in psychology with people who present such eating behaviors.
