Walk-in Counseling Service is an emergency psychological care aimed at attentive and empathic listening to an individual’s distress and clarifying his/her demand. Nevertheless, there is a scarcity of publications that measure the efficacy of this format. Therefore, the aim of the present research was to evaluate quantitatively the efficacy a Walk-In Service through the point-of-view of its users. In addition, we verified associations of sociodemographic variables with variables that indicated participants’ satisfaction. A convenience sample of fifty-seven individuals from the age of 14 participated in this study, who spontaneously sought the Walk-In Service located in São Paulo state (Brazil), during a school year. They filled-in an ad hoc satisfaction questionnaire after receiving psychological care. The results showed that the majority of users (98.25%) declared themselves satisfied with the care received, reporting feeling welcomed and understood/relieved (mean grades of 9.7 and 9.4, respectively). However, those with psychopathological complaints tended to feel less satisfied with the care provided. Conclusions highlight the efficacy of this model, even with a reduced number of meetings, which may constitute an important health promotion strategy.
