Abstract

GONDIM, Sonia Maria Guedes et al. Health Professional, Working Conditions and the COVID-19 Pandemic: A Study in the Context of SUS-Bahia. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2023, vol.15, e15232498.  Epub Aug 09, 2024. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v15i1.2498.

Working conditions, including job dissatisfaction, can increase workers' health risks, especially in health emergencies. This study aimed to broaden the understanding of symptomatological, affective, and social aspects related to the physical and mental health of health professionals who assist people with COVID-19 in the context of the Brazilian National Health System (SUS) in Bahia. Two hundred seventy-eight workers based in Salvador and Vitória da Conquista participated. The survey included sociodemographic data and questions related to health risk perception, physical and psychological symptoms, and job satisfaction with other work variables. Descriptive and inferential statistics (Chi-Square test and Binary Logistic Regression; p≤0.05) were used for data analysis. The results indicate that guidelines and better working conditions contribute to minimizing health risk perception, while situations of violence at work increase it. Physical and psychic symptoms were associated, respectively, with the use of anti-inflammatory and psychotropic drugs. Positive affectivity, few changes in the routine of social relationships, guidance, and better working conditions were predictors of job satisfaction. We concluded that positive affectivity and greater work and family support can contribute to the maintenance of the worker's mental health.
