SANTOS, Manoel Antônio dos et al. Psychoanalytic Group Psychotherapy in Clinical Care for Patients with Eating Disorders. Rev. Psicol. Saúde [online]. 2023, vol.15, e15252458.  Epub 09-Ago-2024. ISSN 2177-093X.  https://doi.org/10.20435/pssa.v15i1.2458.

Introduction: Psychoanalytic group psychotherapy has the potential to contribute significantly to the care and rehabilitation of individuals living with eating disorders (ED). This study aims to explore the therapeutic benefits of group therapy for individuals diagnosed with ED within a specialized service context. Method: This qualitative exploratory study involved 12 patients from an outpatient service and relied on the analysis of reports obtained during group sessions. Five consecutive meetings were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. The data underwent thematic content analysis and were interpreted through the theoretical framework of Psychoanalysis of Linking Configurations. Results and Discussion: The results were categorized into three themes: (1) Feeling understood; (2) Confronting prejudices and stigmatization; (3) Turning pain into power. These findings helped identify potential catalysts for change within the group, including fostering a welcoming, attentive, non-judgmental atmosphere, cultivating mutual care, and reinforcing a sense of belonging. Conclusions: The group setting can serve as a catalyst for therapeutic transformation by fostering an environment that encourages trust, inclusivity, and strengthens patients' subjective involvement in their treatment process.
