Introduction:

Smoking remains a significant public health issue. This research aims to describe the implementation of the Smoking Cessation Program within the public health network of Florianópolis and characterize its operation in the Health Centers (CS) of this municipality.

Method:

An exploratory, cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted, where 36 coordinators responded to a semi-structured interview. Data on program operation, adherence rates, and cessation outcomes were evaluated.

Results:

A decrease in the organization of smoking treatment groups was observed in recent years within the analyzed period. Regarding the treatment format, the majority of CS offered closed and structured groups, following the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health (MS), but with a stronger emphasis on pharmacological treatment. Over 74% of participants successfully quit smoking tobacco.

Conclusion:

It is suggested to invest in training for coordinators to enhance the integration of treatments, in line with national guidelines.
