The connection between Psychoanalysis and Psychosomatic Medicine advocates quality medical care with a view to the integral health of the individual. Aims: To investigate the perspective of psychosomatic health and whether psychoanalysis contributes to medicine.
Method:
We carried out an exploratory and descriptive study with qualitative analysis through alternative solutions. Thirty-one physician from different specialties, from the public and private sector of the State of São Paulo, participated in the study. Electronic submissions were described and delivered in the period from May to November of 2017. They were analyzed based on the collection of data in order to have a general description of the sample.
Results:
Among 31 participants, we observed many specialties, the predominant one being Psychiatry, followed by Internal Medicine and Cardiology, represented in percentage. Most of the interviewees participated in the Medical Psychology discipline during their training and consider the premises of psychosomatics essential to understanding the human being in a biopsychosocial way and developing an adequate doctor-patient bond.
Conclusion:
From the perspective of the interviewees, the biopsychosocial factors are seen as influencers in medical practice, regardless of the specialty. Psychosomatics was considered a baseline for the practice of medicine.
