Introduction:

Anxiety, stress and depression affect individuals in different ways. Studies show that university students may have bigger prevalence in these disorders and the COVID-19 pandemic could have also collaborated to higher degrees.

Methods:

This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and exploratory study with quantitative data analysis, carried out at a private university in 2022, which aimed to analyze the prevalence of depression, anxiety and stress in health science university students who studied during the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants answered the TCLE, Sociodemographic and Economic Questionnaire and Anxiety, Depression and Stress Scale (EADS-21).

Results:

55 students participated, mostly female, average age of 23 years, make use of alcoholic beverages, physical activities and leisure, do not consume nicotine or illicit drugs. As for the EADS-21, most were within the normal range in terms of anxiety and stress, but 1/3 of the sample had moderate depression and a large number of participants showed extremely severe anxiety and depression.

Discussions:

Even with relatively healthy lifestyle habits, a significant portion of the sample shows signs of severe psychological distress.

Conclusion:

The results of the study suggest that, even after the critical period of the pandemic, the university students in the sample show signs of psychological distress.
