Introduction:

Music used as a tool in health care can be a powerful resource for humanized care in mental health. However, the interruption of groups due to the coronavirus pandemic brought challenges to public health practices. The aim of the study was to analyze the repercussions of the interruption of a community choir on the promotion of mental health in users of the Psychosocial Care Network. Network.

Methods:

With a qualitative approach, an intentional sample was carried out with all members of the community choir. Eight of the 12 members participated in semi-structured interviews, with the data submitted to thematic content analysis.

Results:

This article focuses on the thematic categories “Impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the interruption of the choir” and “Social distancing imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic: difficulties and suggestions”. Discussions: Repercussions of the dismantling of the group on the lives and mental health of the participants were discussed. Suggestions for alternative activities during distancing were also addressed. Deprivation aroused fantasies associated with death, freedom, bonds and feelings of emptiness and lack of motivation. There were also suggestions for activities involving Information and Communication Technology.
