LEONARDI, Jan Luiz. The place of behavioral-analytic therapy in the international scenario of behavioral therapies: a historical overview. Perspectivas [online]. 2015, vol.6, n.2, pp.119-131. ISSN 2177-3548. https://doi.org/10.18761/pac.2015.027.
Throughout the 20th century, the term behavior therapy was used to refer to different types of clinical practice, often without there being any philosophical, conceptual or methodological affinity between them. In order to distinguish the psychotherapeutic practice exercised by behavior analysts from this eclectic behavior therapy, the term clinical behavior analysis was created, but different models emerged within this movement, such as functional analytic psychotherapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, behavioral activation, dialectical behavior therapy, among others. In parallel, in Brazil, the term behavioral-analytic therapy was coined in the early 21st century to standardize the name of the clinical practice based on the philosophy of radical behaviorism and on the science of behavior analysis that had been practiced in this country since the beginning of the 1970s.. This great diversity of names, models and practices of behavior therapy can only be understood with some knowledge of the origins and moments of transformation of behavior therapy. Thus, this paper aims to present, in an introductory and didactic way, the history of the behavioral therapies and analyze how the behavioral-analytic therapy participates in this scenario.
