JORGE, Jorgina Sales  y  CORRADI-WEBSTER, Clarissa Mendonça. Street Clinic: Contributions of and Challenges for a Practice Under Construction. Saúde Transform. Soc. [online]. 2012, vol.3, n.1, pp.39-48. ISSN 2178-7085.

Drug use among people living on the street contributes to their increased vulnerability. To deal with these situations, the Ministry of Health proposed the creation of the Street Clinic (Consultório de Rua). This is a strategy for intervention with drug users living on the street, based on the perspective of harm reduction. This study aims to describe and evaluate the implementation process of the Street Clinic in the city of Maceió-AL from the reported experiences of the healthcare team working in this project. Qualitative, descriptive study, using social constructionism as the theoretical framework. The six participants were professionals working in the first experience of the Street Clinic of Maceió. Instruments: documents related to the implementation of the service containing information about the population assisted and semi-structured interviews with team members containing questions formulated based on the Appreciative Inquiry. In the first semester of the implementation of the service 83 people were assisted (60.2% men, 56.6% between 12 and 25 years old, only 15.7% had any documentation). Based on the interviews, five thematic categories were proposed: reasons that characterize the success of the project, articulations that were carried out, postures that contribute to team success, learning in practice and challenges faced in implementing the Street Clinic. The embracement, the acceptance and the bond were highlighted as essential for the success of the work. Successful experiences were primarily related to health issues; In order to expand these actions it is necessary to invest in the hiring of multidisciplinary teams as the proposal of the Street Clinic has been proving its potentiality in reaching people with serious social vulnerability and drug use.
