This article presents possible intersections between family, violence and trauma, seeking to think about possible ways of breaking cycles of intra-family sexual violence. This search is carried out through a theoretical path that approaches Freudian considerations about the characteristics of trauma inscribed in the psyche, and later, Ferenczi’s contributions about trauma and childhood sexual violence are added. From these considerations, the relevance of family secrecy about the sexual violence committed in the family is noted, and how this unfolds in the psychic transmission, culminating in a cycle of intra-family sexual violence between generations. In view of these articulations, the importance of the investigation of the family history of those involved is highlighted, so that the psychic treatment may extend to the family, and also, the place of the analyst as a sensitive witness to the traumatic as possible ways to break the cycle of intra-family sexual violence.
