This study is part of a research on the psychoanalytical writings of Hélio Pellegrino and exposes the state of knowledge on the psychoanalytical production of the author. It includes a survey and exploratory reading of psychoanalytical works published by and about the author, and a panorama of the psychoanalytical production in the different folders of his personal files, present in the Brazilian Literature Museum, of the Fundação Casa de Rui Barbosa (FCRB). He finds that there is no scientific production on his writings in this field. It makes initial reflections on why there is a social amnesia of the contribution of his thought to psychoanalysis in Brazil, on the part of research in psychoanalysis, psychoanalytic criticism, psychoanalytic institutions and psychoanalysts, which leads to the interrogation of what is silenced by silencing his contribution. The hypothesis developed in this study is that this is due to the thematic silence of the essence of the social commitment of psychoanalysis, among other issues.
