The purpose of this article is to analyze the presence of the domain dimension in the constitution of the ego in Freudian thought. The Freudian notion of a psychic apparatus forged to dominate the excitations - which originate in the organism and arrive at the mind as a work requirement by virtue of its connection with the body - opens a reading perspective in which such dimension occupies central place. In fact, although Freud has never devoted an article, or even a chapter, to the thematization of the domain dimension, it is present throughout his work. In the present article, we will try to show how the domain dimension, linked to the activity / passivity polarity, crosses the constitution of the ego: from the hallucinatory experience of satisfaction, through autoerotism narcissism, to stages where the ego has already ascended to the symbolic register. The passage from passivity to activity is essential to the psychic functioning and, therefore, to the subjective appropriation carried out in narcissism.
