Abstract

GUIMARAES, Isabela Medina França Affonso dos Santos  and  ZORNIG, Silvia Maria AbuJamra. Brave New Maternity. Rev. Subj. [online]. 2022, vol.22, n.2, e11982.  Epub Dec 05, 2025. ISSN 2359-0769.  https://doi.org/10.5020/23590777.rs.v22i2.e11982.

The idealization of women’s subjective experience concerning motherhood contrasts with the new feminine ideals that are no longer restricted to motherhood and marriage. Faced with the plurality of possible female destinies beyond motherhood, we sought to reflect, based on a theoretical study, on the psychic repercussions experienced by the mother from the arrival of a baby, anchored both in her personal history and in the social context of the which one lives, since becoming a mother is not free from the assumptions of her time. Therefore, a theoretical study was carried out based on the concepts of primary maternal concern and state without a subject by Winnicott and Ogden, in order to understand this moment, always unique, in the life of the new mother.

Keywords : maternity; subjectivity; psychoanalytic clinic.
