Karen Horney was a German pioneer psychoanalyst who published important texts in the 1920s and 1930s, notably when an intense discussion about femininity took place in psychoanalytic circles, mobilizing many authors. Nevertheless, her work is little known in Brazil. The present article aims to review some of her main contributions on the critique to male referential in Psychoanalysis, with the purpose to point out their historical relevance and the possibilities to articulate them with current discussions on Psychoanalysis, Feminisms and Gender Studies in Brazil.

Keywords : psychoanalytic theory; feminism; penis envy; Karen Horney.
