This article is part of a broader research on paternal experiences in the transition to fatherhood during the COVID-19 pandemic. This work aimed to investigate the paternal involvement of fathers of young children in the COVID-19 pandemic. Ten first-time fathers from the cities of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, white, heterosexual, belonging to the population middle-classes were interviewed. The interviews were recorded, transcribed, and submitted to the content analysis method in thematic categorical modality. The analyses were carried out from the family and couple systemic perspective articulated with psychoanalytic concepts. The results showed that social isolation resulting from the pandemic was perceived as eminently positive for the exercise of fatherhood by parents of young children, as it increased the time available for father-child interaction. This study suggests that flavouring paternal presence within the family is a fundamental element for higher engagement of fathers in the daily care of their children.
