Objectives:

This paper aimed to understand the shapes of interactions between two babies and caregivers in a temporary childcare institution.

Method:

A qualitative approach inspired by Bick observation method was used to carry out the data collection. After Reading the materials from the observations and analysis, three categories were created: interactive baby resources; caregivers and their abilities to attend and take care of the baby; and the shelter as a context for promoting the caregiver-baby interaction.

Results:

It should be noted that both babies were presenting a development within the expected range for their ages, which suggest that the institution was presented in a positive way, both in terms of the objects present in it used as support for care, and the availability of caregivers with the children. The shelter where the research was carried out showed that it can significantly influence the process of individualization and emotional development of the babies.

Conclusion:

Researches on early childhood development in institutions such as the shelter are important on promoting public policies aimed at the health and care of the infant.
