Climate emergencies and ongoing wars demonstrate the civilizational crisis of a development based on the apology of consumerism, fossil energy and the devastation of nature. A civilization based on the concentration of income, social inequality, exploitation of class, color, gender and ethnicity is proving to be a threat to the survival of our species. New ethical, economic, cultural, psychological and social paradigms are necessary. We defend creative solutions, in a functioning of otherness, developing a dialectical relationship with the ecosystem, respecting contemporary singularities, versatility and multiplicity, maintaining an ethical commitment to individuals and their communities.

It is with this proposition that we launch the third issue of volume 41 of Junguiana, bringing a selection of disturbing texts to make us reflect. We begin with the article “Jung at the crossroads or reading Jung from Exu”, which proposes the reading of aspects of Jung’s work based on the orixá Exu and the notion of crossroads, understood as an epistemological reference for an expansion of analytical psychology. We continue with “Maps of women on the asphalt: dialogues about the cultural complex of machismo ” which, in an essayistic methodology, using the technique of active imagination, establishes a dialogue with a graffiti located in Salvador, Bahia, and analyzes how much the change in graffiti image can also reflect the need for collective change. In “Contributions of animals in the clinic: a study in analytical psychology”, the authors seek to understand the presence of animals in the clinical office as collaborators in the psychotherapeutic process, promoting changes in the therapeutic space, and in the bond between patient and therapist, and creating emotional support during the sessions. “The analyst on the couch: reflections on the analyst’s narcissistic vulnerability” discusses the importance of analysts reflecting on their own narcissistic vulnerability, which is revealed through the countertransference feelings provoked in the therapeutic relationship. “From parting to living in absence: considerations on grief and rites of passage based on experiences during the pandemic” analyzes three cases of grief experienced during the Covid-19 pandemic. The article reflects how farewell rituals disseminated by culture and religions, or even created by the bereaved, can help in the grieving process, enabling the creation of new meanings for the loss experienced. “The reality of the soul in the thought of Léon Bonaventure” is part of the 2021 post-doctoral research “Contribution to the history of analytical psychology through the eyes of Léon Bonaventure”, based on interviews with this author and his texts. We finalize with the article “Symbolic Correlations between the Bhagavad Gita and the Individualization Process”, which interprets the war between the ghettos of the Pandavas and the Káuravas as a symbolic process due to which Arjuna, the leader character of the Pandavas, could incorporate into his psyche contents symbolized and deposited in the Káuravas, whether the characteristics are dark, defensive, creative or enlightened.

In this edition we present important themes and matters that have gained even more relevance at this time, providing reflection on new perspectives on personal and professional life with attention to the present time, to what we can mobilize in our hearts and minds, and to what we can effectively do and transform through empathy and ethics.

We wish you a pleasant reading!
