In this edition, a thematic dossier will be published. It resulted from an unprecedented partnership between two psychology journals in Brazil: Psico, from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (https://revistaseletronicas.pucrs.br/revistapsico), and Paideia (Ribeirão Preto). This editorial coordination was under the responsibility of Paideia, with Deputy Editor Sonia Maria Guedes Gondim (Universidade Federal da Bahia) and Guest Editor Cristiane Faiad (Universidade de Brasília). At Psico, the Guest Editors in charge were Cristiane Faiad (Universidade de Brasília), Sabrina Barroso (Universidade Federal do Triângulo Mineiro), and Camila Oliveira (Atitus Educação e Universidade Estadual de Minas Gerais).
Psico issued a special call for papers exclusively targeting psychological assessment research produced at Associação Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-graduação em Psicologia (ANPEPP), in line with the journal’s editorial policy. This initiative was seen as an excellent opportunity to establish a channel for disseminating high-quality scientific production from research groups linked to postgraduate programs in Psychology across Brazil. In contrast, Paideia covers five thematic areas and their interfaces in its editorial scope: health psychology, developmental psychology, school and educational psychology, social psychology, and psychological assessment.
ANPEPP encompasses approximately 100 working groups (WGs) on several psychological themes and phenomena, bringing together more than a thousand researchers and doctoral students from all regions of the country. This way, the partnership sought to expand the invitation to several other WGs. The partnership with Psico and the objectives to be achieved, considering the reality of the WGs (on average 15 participants per WG) in terms of number of participants led Paideia to become more flexible in some editorial procedures, which were later incorporated into the journal´s standards policies. These adjustments included allowing a higher number of authors per paper, the number of self-citations, and references. Another requirement was that each manuscript should include at least one international co-author, aiming to enhance Paideia´s visibility among international readers.
We consider this initiative a success. In 2025, we received 57 submissions, 22 of which were rejected during the desk review process conducted by two editors. Of the 35 manuscripts that proceeded to peer review, five were approved for publication this year:
1. Sexism in university teaching: Differences in the evaluations of male and female professors
2. Parenting and Coparenting: Intervention Program for Families of Teenagers
3. R-Optimized Administration In The Zulliger-Sc: Its Impact On The Formal Quality Of The Answers
4. Post-Pandemic Adolescence: Evaluation Of Training For Protection Network Professionals
5. Psychoanalysis, Adolescence and the Social Bond: Notes on the Current Malaise in Education
6. Environmental Psychology Contributions to SDG in Brazil: Towards Healthy Societies?
The careful filtering desk review ensured that only manuscripts with a strong chance of approval proceeded to peer review. For that reason, when manuscripts with great potential to contribute to Paideia themes were identified, the publishers served as first reviewers, requesting adjustments before continuing in the editorial process. We consider the procedure appropriate, given the numerous difficulties in finding available reviewers. Thus, we sought to reduce the reviewer´s workload and accelerate the editorial process for the thematic dossier.
So far, the overall balance has been quite positive. The dossier successfully attracted representative WGs from Paideia´s five thematic areas, contributing to the dissemination of a substantial body of knowledge to the scientific community. Nonetheless, we were concerned by the number of manuscripts rejected at the desk review stage. Considering the academic level of the WGs involved, we had expected a larger number of submissions meeting the publication standards.
One contributing factor was a misunderstanding of the call for papers. Paideia accepted research reports, theoretical essays (by invitation), and systematic literature reviews. The call clearly stated that:
“Manuscripts must adhere to the rigor and quality expected for the journal and fit one of the following thematic axes: research problems related to Psychology, specifically in the areas of: 1) Health Psychology, 2) Developmental Psychology, 3) School and Educational Psychology, 4) Social Psychology, 5) Psychological Assessment and 6) Interfaces areas as Psychology Organizational and Work”.
However, some WGs interpreted the invitation as an opportunity to document the history of their WGs, disregarding the clarification provided. While contextual information about the group´s trajectory could serve as a background element, it was not intended to constitute the main focus of the manuscript.
In conclusion, this thematic dossier represents a valuable opportunity to showcase national postgraduate research in Psychology, encompassing contributions from diverse subfields. It also helped Paideia expand its international visibility by including foreign authors and strengthening inter-journal collaboration in Brazil - an important step toward building sustainable networks for scientific dissemination.
Editorial Process - 2024
In reviewing the editorial process of Paidéia in 2024, we observe that the median of the processing time of the manuscripts was approximately 192 days. This year, the journal received 88 new manuscripts, of which 32 were approved, 52 were rejected, and 4 were still under evaluation as of November 2025 (Table 1).
The data presented in Figure 1 illustrate the evolution of manuscript submissions and editorial outcomes for Paideia between 2022 and 2024. The number of submissions peaked in 2023, reaching approximately 120 manuscripts, followed by a decline in 2024 to around 90. Despite this fluctuation, the number of published and approved manuscripts remained relatively stable over the three years, indicating consistency in editorial standards and publication capacity.

| Final decision | n | % |
|---|---|---|
| Submitted | 88 | 100.0 |
| Approved | 32 | 36.4 |
| Rejected | 52 | 59.1 |
Refusals showed a slight decrease in 2024 compared to 2023, while the proportion of manuscripts still in the editorial process remained low, suggesting improved efficiency in the review workflow. Overall, these results demonstrate that Paideia maintained a rigorous selection process and stable publication output, even amid variations in submission volume.
In volume 34, 34 research reports, 3 systematic literature review and the Management Report were published (Table 3).
Figure 1 illustrates the evolution of the number of manuscripts submitted and their outcomes over the 2021-2023 triennium. A significant increase in submissions is evident, particularly between 2022 and 2023, where submissions reached over 120 manuscripts, reflecting the growing interest in publishing in Paidéia. This increase is strongly associated with the thematic dossier on methodological challenges in psychological research, which drew considerable attention from researchers in the field. Despite the rise in submissions, the number of published articles remained steady, underscoring the journal’s commitment to maintaining rigorous selection criteria.
