DESIDADES is an electronic, peer-reviewed, scientific journal in the area of childhood and youth in Latin America. It comes out three times a year. It publishes texts in Portuguese or Spanish. It aims at the dissemination of scientific knowledge to specialists and non-specialists establishing a dialogue among researchers, professionals, students and the public at large. It is published by the Centre of Interdisciplinary Research and Interchange on Contemporary Childhood and Youth (NIPIAC), of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ).

The journal has the objective of consolidating an electronic platform of scientific and academic discussion on children and youth of the Latin American subcontinent.  It aims at promoting a space for debates and dissemination of knowledge on the issues of Latin American childhoods and youths.

DESIDADES means, as the title stands, that ages, regarded as crystallized criteria that essentialize and naturalize attitudes, behaviours and modes of existence according to a linear biographical temporalization, need to be problematized so as to permit new ways of understanding and enhancing the dialogue between generational groups.

From 2013 to 2019 the journal was published every three months.  From 2020 the journal has become quarterly.

DESIDADES  is an open access journal and is concerned with disseminating scientific knowledge to the wide public at no charge.
