AUTHOR GUIDELINES

 

Apresentation

The journal Estilos da Clínica is a biannual publication that aims establish an editorial area of interdisciplinary quality around the axle of psychoanalysis toward the discussion of infancy vicissitude. It accepts to publication manuscripts directed by authors.

The publication of articles is turned to decisions of reviewers from the journal Estilos da Clínica or other Ad-Hoc collaborators. The manuscripts will be appreciate by the Executive Editor if they are according to the style of manuscript publication and will be directed by editors to evaluation of at least two Ad-Hoc collaborators. Ad-hoc collaborators will be selected by the Executive Editor among researchers recognized in the area of publishing and not will be informed about the identity of authors and their institutional affiliation. The authors shouldn´t Know the identity of consultants.

After analysis of the manuscripts, the consultants give the editorial decisions: approved, approved with recomendations/sugestions or rejected to publication. The editorial board of the journal Estilos da Clínica has qualified consultants that emit constructed editorial decisions to manuscripts of the authors. Copies of the consultants opinions will be provided to the author of the text. The editors, after analysis of the advice, accept or reject the text directing it to publication as well as possibly suggest modifications to the author. Moreover, the Editors reserve the right to make minor and simple modifications to the texts, to expedite the process of publication. The Executive Editor should inform the authors the fastest possible of the final editorial decision and possible date of publication.

The original works submitted will not be returned. Therefore, it is recommended that authors keep copies of the texts. The copyright of articles published will not be given to the journal Estilos da Clínica and therefore, belongs to their authors and, if such texts will be published in other vehicles, it is recommended that the first publication at Estilos da Clínica be mentioned. The authors will receive a copy of the periodical in which his article was published.

 

Manuscript preparation

1 – The original manuscript must be submitted to executive editor and figures with one copy, in CD-ROM (preferentially), in Word for Windows.

2 – Texts should not exceed 18 typed pages in length in 1,5 spaced, a font size no smaller than 12 point is required, limited to a maximum of 35000 caracters (including references and caracters in white).

3 – All manuscripts must contain:

a) cover page;

b) title in Portuguese, English and Spanish;

c) institutional affiliations and specialized areas of all authors;

d) correspondence addresses of all authors (including zip code, telephone, e-mail);

e) Abstracts (the manuscript must include an “resumo” of no more than 100 words in Portuguese, “resumen” in Spanish and “abstract” in English);

f) Supply up to five keywords for indexing purposes in portuguese (palavras-chave), a version to Spanish (palabras clave) and English (index terms);

g) Manuscripts must be typewritten in a single font;

h) Titles or sections must be in bold;

i) Titles must be in caps;

j) Use italic type to highlight;

k) Paragraphs should be marked in a single-spaced;

l) Use only double quotes for citations.

m) Use a minimum number of notes. They should be numbered (arabic numbers) and organized on one page separately, by the end of the text, and not in the botton of the pages.

5 – The detailed report should not exceed six pages, and the reading notes, 1 page. The presentation must meet the same standards used for standardization of articles. Maximum of 12000 caracters.

6 – Citations in the text and references must be standardized according to APA standards (American Psychological Association). Note: The standards are available from the IPUSP´s website, at the link of the library (http://www.ip.usp.br/portal/) in Manuais de Normalização.

 

Online submission

For online submission of manuscripts send an e-mail forwarding a letter regarding the manuscript and the formal aspects of presenting it, as described above. The author(s) will receive an acknowledgment of receipt when the manuscript is received and they may follow-up the online editorial process using the author’s username and login.

The author sends a letter by e-mail (revistaestilosdaclinica@usp.br) to the Editor authorizing the manuscript to be submitted to the editorial process. Exclusively, manuscripts must be submitted online. Do not send a copy of the manuscript attached by e-mail.

The e-mail above substitutes the cover letter and it should inform as well: - title of the manuscript in Portuguese and in English (maximum of 15 words);

- name and institutional affiliation of each author;

- name of the authors as they should appear in reference citations;

- postal institutional address of the author with whom the reader may engage in correspondence;

- acknowledgments and observations. Original papers must be submitted online by means of the main author’s registration in the journal’s site on the Internet - http://submission-pepsic.scielo.br/.

STANDARDS TO CITATIONS IN THE TEXT

a-) Must be submitted by author's surname followed by year of publication.

Eg.: Levin (1991) ou (Levin, 1991). Lacan (2003) ou (Lacan, 2003)

b-) Quotations with two authors, surnames, as cited in parenthesis must be connected by &; when cited in the text, should be bound by and (e if the text is in Português, and, in English, y, in Spanish, and so on).

Eg.: Laplanche e Pontalis (1988) ou (Laplanche & Pontalis, 1988).

c-) Citation from three to five authors, the first time they appear in the text all authors are cited, the following quotes cite the first author's surname followed by Latin expression “et al”. Examples:

First time the authors are cited in the text:

Labov, Cohen, Robins e Lewis (1968) ou (Labov, Cohen, Robins & Lewis, 1968).

In the following quotes:

Labov et al. (1968) ou (Labov et al., 1968).

Note: In the References section mention all authors in the order they appear in the publication.

d-) Quotes with six or more authors, cite the surname of the first author followed by Latin expression “et al”.

Example: Hays et al. (2002) ou (Hays et al., 2002)

e-) Textual citations (literal transcription of a text) must be bounded by quotation marks, followed by the surname of the author, date and pages. Note: The quotes from testimonials or interviews, the statements must be submitted in italic and its form of presentations should follow the guidance for textual citation.

Example: Asked about the quality of their courses of graduation, about 70% of interviewed claim to be insufficient. The second respondent, for example, states that "the graduation was insufficient, have no conditions of forming the practice. It’s necessary a generalist formation and a critic thinking”.

f-) Indirect quotation, in other words, that whose idea is extracted from another source, use the expression "cited by" (if the text is in English, "as cited in”, and so on).

Eg.: For Silva (1981) quoted by Gomes (1998).

Note: In references, mention only the consulted (in the case, Gomes, 1998).

g-) Quotations from several authors and the same idea, should follow alphabetical order of their surnames.

Eg.: (Aubry, 1986; Coriat, 1997; Stefan, 1991).

h-) Documents with different dates of publication and the same author, cite the author's surname and the years of publication in chronological order.

Eg .: Mannoni (1981, 1990, 1995).

i-) Quotations of documents with the same date of publication and author add small letters after the year of publication.

Eg.: Winnicott (1975a, 1975b) or (Winnicott, 1975a, 1975b).

j-) Citations of information obtained through informal channels (classroom, conference, communication staff, personal correspondence, etc..), add information between parenteses after quotation.

Eg.: (Verbal information, 27 de julho de 2002).

k-) For quotes obtained from Homepage or Website cite the electronic address between parentheses after information.

Eg.:(www.bvs-psi.org.br)

Note: It is not necessary list it at References at the end of the text. l-) In quotes of earlier works and reissued, cite the date of original publication, separated by the bar of the date of consulted edition.

Ex.: Freud (1930/1980) or (Freud, 1930/1980)

Skinner (1953/1989) or (Skinner, 1953/1989)

m-) Quotation of the local publication According to APA (2001), major cities internationally recognized for his publications don’ t have to present the state or country. In Brazil we have adopted don’ t mention the acronym of the states for cities of So Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

References

The references must be presented at the end of the text and appear in a new page. It must be in alphabetical order from the last name of the author and provide a list by title

Works by the same first author, references are arranged in chronological order of publication.
