Guidelines for Authors

When submitting an article to the Gerais: Interinstitutional Journal of Psychology, it is madatiry to follow the guidelines indicated in the items from A to M, as follows. A new edition will be issued every four months, and due to the large number of articles received for evaluation, the time between submission and publication of the article has been longer than 02 (two) years. Gerais does not currently accept proposals for thematic dossiers or special issues, nor articles written in languages other than Portuguese. The magazine adopts the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Non Adapted license (CC BY 3.0), authorizing and encouraging the sharing of published work with acknowledgment of authorship and initial publication in this journal.

It is required that at least one of the authors has a PhD or any doctoral degree, indicating this in the “Cover Letter”.

Authors with a PhD or any doctoral degree must agree to carry out a review for the journal during the evaluation period of their article.

A. The article must be in accordance with the scope of the journal, that is to spread advances in the field of Psychology. Considered articles: research reports, essas, iterature review and experience reports.

B. Authors must include the following files in the submission system: (a) a cover letter according to the model provided by the journal; (b) the texto of the article according to this template; (c)  the checklist filled and signed by the author responsible for submission, according to the type of study reported (Research reports with quantitative and qualitative methods; Essays; Literature Reviews; and Experience  Reports).

C. The cover letter is a file with a model provided by the jornal, in which na qual os authors inform their ORCID number, ensure the originality of the manuscript, the conformity with the current ethical principles of research with human beings and / or animals, with the journal's free access and copyright policies, and suggest possible reviewers for the submitted article . A template can be downloaded at the following link: Model of Cover Letter. We emphasize that, after the submission has been carried out, modifications to the authorship data, such as the removal or inclusion of co-authors, are not allowed, and then, in the publication of the article, the sequence of authors in the submission letter is observed. Submissions made without the letter signed by the authors and correctly completed will be automatically rejected.

D. The text of the article must be submitted using the mandatory template provided by the journal in .doc, .docx, .odt or .rtf formats and without identification of authorship. Submissions made outside the indicated formats will be automatically rejected. E. The formatting of the body of the text, figures, tables and reference list must strictly follow the recommendations of the 6th edition of the “Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association - APA”. APA maintains a website with support resources aimed at standardizing articles to be submitted to specialized journals: https://apastyle.apa.org/6th-edition-resources.

F. The text of the article must be in a single file and contain the following elements: (a) title page with title in Portuguese and English (maximum of 15 words), without identifying the authors, abstracts in Portuguese and English; (c) body of the text including tables and figures; (d) references.

G. The abstract must be prepared in format Garamond size 10, single spaced, contain a maximum of 200 words, and include introduction, objective, method, results and conclusion / final considerations. Next, three to five keywords must be indicated for the work presented. The translated version in English (abstract and keywords) must be fully equivalent to the original, including the keywords used and the maximum number of words. Despite the fidelity to the original version, it must be ensured proper adaptation to expressions and concepts in the field of psychology. The quality assurance of the abstract and keywords is the responsibility of the authors.

H. The formatting of the text must follow the following guidelines present in the template: maximum number of 25 pages, including cover page with abstracts, body text including tables and figures, references; A4 page; 2.5 cm margins on all sides; text body format Lucida Sans/Lucida Sans Unicode 10; paragraph with indentation of half an inch (1.25 cm); justified alignment; 1.5 spacing (including tables) except for the abstract and references (single spacing); and pagination at the bottom right, from the cover page. Titles must be in bold, with specific formatting for each title level, according to the rules of APA 6th edition and template. Words or expressions to be highlighted in the body of the text must be enclosed in single quotation marks, with italics reserved for words in a foreign language. Notes should be included as endnotes (not footnotes) and should be avoided as much as possible.

I. Figures and Tables should be numbered sequentially, with Arabic numerals that respect the order of their presentation in the manuscript. Authors must insert the figure / table in the exact place of the text.

J. Figures must be clear ando f good quality, with the maximum size of a page. Each figure must contain a caption and numbering.

K. The maximum number of figures / table is five (5).

L. Tables must follow the same formatting as the text of the body of the article: 1.5 spacing, Lucida Sans 10. The maximum size of each table is one page, and must necessarily contain a caption and numbering according to the APA rules.

M . The check list corresponding to the type of article must be duly completed by the authors and signed by the author responsible for the submission. Checklists are available here:Research reports with quantitative and qualitative methods; Essays; Literature Reviews; and Experience reports.

It is essential that

  • The responsible author only starts the article submission after making sure that all required documents (a submission letter according to the journal template; the article text according to the template and the checklist) meet the requests and are available for attachment.
  • Make sure that the author responsible for the submission is registered as an AUTHOR in his profile in Revista Gerais. If not, enter your login and password and change your profile, including "Author".
  • Check that each author's metadata is completely filled, including the authors' mini-biography and their institutional affiliation, before completing the submission. After submission, no author can be included and the order of the authors cannot be changed.

 

Verification Items for Submission

As part of the submission process, authors must check the submission conformity with all items listed below. Submissions in disagreement with the rules will be rejected.

  • The contribution is original and unprecedented and it is not being evaluated to publication for another journal, otherwise justify in Comments to the Editor (Comentário ao Editor);

  • The text was produced using the template provided by the journal, strictly following the guidelines on page number, spacing; employs italics instead of underlining (except for URL addresses); with figures and tables inserted in the body of the text.

  • The files to be submitted are in Microsoft Word format or RTF ( as long as it does not exceed 2MB).

  • All Internet page addresses (URLs) included in the text (eg, http://www.ibict.br) are active and ready to click.

  • The text follows standards and bibliographic requirements described on Authors' Guidelines  (Guidelines to authors), na seção About the Journal).
  • The identification of authorship of this work was removed from the file and from the Properties option in Word, thus ensuring the criterion of confidentiality of the journal, if submitted for peer review (ex.: articles), according to the instructions available in Ensuring blind peer review).
  • The letter signed by the authors was duly completed and inserted in the submission system
  • The checklist referring to the type of article and the rules adopted by Revista Gerais was filled out by the authors and entered into the system
  • Ethical care was highlighted in the text of the article.

    Authors with articles published in this journal must agree with the following terms:

    License to publish

    a. Authors have the copyright and grant the journal the rights of first publication, with the work simultaneously licensed under Creative Commons Attribution, that allows sharing the works with recognition of the authorship and and the first publication in this journal.

    b. Authors are authorized to take additional contracts separately, for non-exclusive distribution of the version of the work published in this journal (exemple: publish in institutional repository or as a book chapter), with acknowledgment of authorship and initial publication in this journal.

    c. Authors are allowed and encouraged to publish and distribute their work online (exemple: in institutional repositories or on their personal web page) at any point before or during the editorial process, as this can generate productive changes as well as increase the impact and the citation of the published work.

     

    Citation rules

    1. References with one or two authors: authors' surname, followed by the year of publication, everytime the work is mentioned. Example: Lakatos and Marconi (1999) or (Lakatos & Marconi, 1999).

    2. References with three to five authors: the first time the work is cited, each author surname must be included, followed by year of publication. In the second citation only the first author surname must to be included, followed by the expression "et al." (no italic) and the year of publication. Example: Becker, Fite, Luebbe, Stoppelbein & Greening (2013) or (Becker, Fite, Luebbe, Stoppelbein, & Greening, 2013) in the first citation and Becker et al. (2013) or (Becker et al., 2013) from the second citation. In the list of references, all authors must be included.

    3. References with six ou more authors: only the first author surname, followed by the expression "et.al". and the year of publication must be mentioned everytime the work is cited. Example: Pagès et al (2006) or (Pagès et al., 2006).

    Note:in the list of references, when the quote has eight or more authors, the first six authors must be included, followed by ellipis and the last author name.

    4. Literal Quote: in case of literal quotes with up to 40 words, the extract must to be incorporated into the text with quotation marks. The page corresponding to the original text must be included in the citation. Above 40 words, the extract must start a new paragraph, with 1.25cm indent from the left border. It is not necessary to include quotation marks and italics. In the same way, the corresponding page must be included after the quote.

    5. Literal interview reports, focus group, depositions, journal records: the extract must start new paragraph, regardless of the words number, with 1.25cm indent from the left border across the whole paragraph and in italics.

    6. Citation of citation: original author followed by the year of publication and author/ year that mentioned originally. Example: Enriquez (2001, cited by Araújo & Carreteiro, 2001).

    7. Citation of old work reprinted in later date: author (original year/ later date). Exemple: Freud (1930/1974).

     

    Reference format

    References should be presented, at the end of the text, in alphabetical order by the surname of the first author and chronologically for the works of the same author. The DOI for each reference must be included. If the article does not have a DOI, the website on which it was accessed must be informed ("Retrieved from ..."). For references of works in physical support, it is not necessary to inform DOI.
