Abstract

DEL PRETTE, Zilda Aparecida Pereira; FERNANDES PAIVA, Mirella Lopez Martini  and  DEL PRETTE, Almir. Contributions of the social skills approach for a systemic understanding of the teaching-learning process. Interações [online]. 2005, vol.10, n.20, pp.57-72. ISSN 1413-2907.

This essay examines some explanations for school failure. We argue for systemic approach of the process and the products of school education even when dealing with the crucial point of the teacher-student relationship. Moreover, we present concepts regarding interpersonal relationships and social skills, arguing that they are compatible with this systemic perspective and may be applied to the analysis of, and intervention in, the teacher-student relationship. Finally, some implications of this argument for educational research and practice are discussed. Despite its exploratory character and inherent challenges, this argument paves the way to a wider understanding of the teaching-learning process which contributes for a more effective educational practice.

Keywords : Systemic approach; School education; Teacher-student relationship; Interpersonal relationships; Social skills.
