Abstract

PARREIRA, Pedro Miguel Santos Dinis; CARVALHO, Carla Maria Santos de; MONICO, Lisete dos Santos  and  SANTOS, Ana Sofia Marques de Oliveira Pereira. Entrepreneurship in higher education: a psychometric study of the scale of opportunities and resources for entrepreneurship. Rev. Psicol., Organ. Trab. [online]. 2017, vol.17, n.4, pp.269-278. Entrepreneurship can be defined as an attempt to launch new projects, create self-employment opportunities, or expand existing businesses. There are multiple entrepreneurship measurement scales; however, most of them are aimed at corporate evaluation. This study intends to analyze the psychometric properties of the Opportunities and Resources for Entrepreneurship scale in a sample of university students, focusing on factors that influence entrepreneurial behaviors. The sample consisted of 6,532 polytechnic university students. The sample was randomly divided into two equal-sized groups. An exploratory factor analysis was run using one subgroup, from which four factors emerged: F1-Resource Availability, F2-Business Stability, F3-Economic and Political Instability, and F4-Business Opportunities. A confirmatory factor analysis was then done using the other subgroup, which showed acceptable goodness-of-fit levels. This study demonstrated the psychometric robustness of the instrument under analysis, as well as that students perceive environmental factors as important variables that promote entrepreneurship in Portugal.
