The paper presents some of the results of a research that adapted and implemented the Fifth Dimension (5D) collaborative model in a context of social vulnerability in Uruguay. We analyze the possibilities and limits of the model to the processes of appropriation of the information and communication technologies (ICT) in childhood in the framework of a collaborative action research between university and community. We also discuss the importance of generating a community of practice that promotes a participatory culture that enables the emergence of meaningful experiences and processes of learning, collaboration and creation mediated by ICT.
