Resumen

GREEN, André. The silence of the psychoanalyst. Psyche (Sao Paulo) [online]. 2004, vol.8, n.14, pp.13-38. ISSN 1415-1138.

This paper is a translation of André Green's article “Le silence du psychanalyste”, first published in Topique, May of 1979, and secondly, in his book La folie privée de 1990, Paris, Galimard. In a discussion with his psychoanalyst colleagues, the author works with two major questions: 1) What is the metapsychological status of the psychoanalyst's silence during the clinical sessions?; 2) Does the silence of the psychoanalyst exist? Understanding this silence as part of the clinical setting, the author discusses the various meanings it might have.

Palabras clave : Psychoanalyst's silence; Metapsychology and psychoanalytic technique; Clinical setting; Transference; Interpretation; Inconscient and drives; Borderline cases.
