Resumen

MOSANER, Renata. Freedom and fate in Francesca Woodman's photographic work: a critical reading exercise. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2018, vol.40, n.66, pp.161-176. ISSN 0101-3106.

This paper discusses the critical reading of art work's pivotal aspects and reflects upon some of the tools and possibilities of its doing. Basically, it presents two forms of approach that differ in what concerns: the degree of relevance attributed to the work of art itself; and the implication of the reader on it. The first approach shows how other elements are hindrances to a critical reading, such as the exacerbation of the artist's personal characteristics and the use of the work or artist for the exemplification of a preconceived theory. The second approach states the central role that the work must have in reading, also imbued with the historical context that permeate it. In this sense, the article proposes an exercise of critical reading of a photograph produced by Francesca Woodman.
