Resumen

ALMEIDA, Jorge de. Condemned to interpretation: Kafka and the meanings of the world. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2011, vol.45, n.2, pp.85-91. ISSN 0486-641X.

The various interpretations of the works of Franz Kafka, a contemporary of Freud, have to face a theme that marks the birth of modernity: the inability to give a full meaning to oneself and the world. Based on an analysis of the short story "Those who pass us running", our essay seeks to show how the narrators, characters and readers of Kafka share the same fate: they are condemned to interpretation. That would bring them closer to the psychoanalytical practice, which also cannot rely on generic methods organized in advance, nor assume the existence of a meaning prior to the act of interpretation itself.

Palabras clave : interpretation; Franz Kafka; meaning; realism; psychoanalysis; allegory.
