^lpt^aNo interior do universo mais amplo das relações entre a Igreja e o Estado na época do governo ditatorial de Getúlio Vargas, o artigo procura demonstrar a identificação de interesses entre essas duas instâncias de poder para o alcance de seus próprios fins, levando-se em conta como objeto de análise o problema da família e, por extensão, da mulher e da prole. A efetivação dos projetos do Estado Novo e da Igreja Católica estava sujeita, em larga medida, à manutenção da ordem e da estabilidade sociais por meio do disciplinamento da família, concebida como fundamento da sociedade.^len^aWithin the wider universe of relationships between the Catholic Church and the State during the Getulio Vargas dictatorship, the article intends to demonstrate the identification of interests between these two divisions of power for the fulfillment of their own aims, using as object of analysis the problem of the family and, as a consequence, of women and their children. The fulfillment of the "New State" and Catholic Church projects was subordinated, to a large extent, to the maintenance of social order and social stability, through the discipline of the family, conceived as the foundation of society.
