MACHADO, Andréa Carla  e  ALMEIDA, Maria Amelia. Cognitive profile of the small children with and without development delay. Rev. psicopedag. [online]. 2017, vol.34, n.103, pp.45-52. ISSN 0103-8486.

The delay in development may cause serious problems for small children along life. Thus, early stimulation and intervention highlights the importance of the work of cognitive functions necessary for the development and learning. This study aimed to describe the profile of functions related to cognitive area of small children who participated in an early intervention program. A total of 48 children aged 3 to 5 years old (M=0.248) and (SD=4.39) of both sexes (46.26% male and 53.74% male), belonging to two municipal preschools of a city in São Paulo. The Psychoeducational Profile Revised-PEP-R and the track test children's version were applied. The results revealed that children showed similar profile between groups divided by age and level of development. Thus, the data indicated that a schedule is important in relation to the variables cited for the construction of early intervention programs, because it is necessary to know what is expected for each age group taking into account the cognitive area studied here, and so consequently work on prevention and health promotion, education and child development.
