CORREIA, Karla Sandy de Leça e PINTO, Maria Alexandra Marques. Stress, coping and adaptation in middle school transition: effects of an intervention program. Aletheia [online]. 2008, n.27, pp.07-22. ISSN 1413-0394.
This study analyzes the differences in the stress factors that are relevant in school transition, coping strategies used and two adaptation indexes, academic and social, between three groups of students: a group that took part in a program with sessions about Transition (n=83) in the fourth year, a group that, in addition to this program, took part in Social Skills training (n=22) and a control group (n=104). The results reveal that the group that profited with the Social Skills training and other sessions related with the Transition, made use of coping strategies more frequently, especially the cognitive-behavioral distraction ones, than the other two. There were no differences in school stress levels and the two adaptation indexes in the three groups.
