ARAUJO, Andressa Araújo de e SILVA, Joilson Pereira da. Deafness and Prejudice: an Analysis from the Perception of Parents of the Deaf people. Gerais, Rev. Interinst. Psicol. [online]. 2020, vol.13, n.2, pp.1-20. ISSN 1983-8220. https://doi.org/10.36298/gerais202013e14744.
The current study aimed to analyze the perception of parents about prejudice suffered by their deaf children. Eight parents of the deaf children were surveyed through a semi-structured interview which was analyzed using the Iramuteq Software through the Descending Hierarchical Classification (CHD). The results generated a dendrogram with five classes that represent, in the parents' view, the prejudices that deaf children, who use the Libras as a form of communication, face. It is perceived that the deaf people are still treated as deficient and "sick." Thus, several types of prejudices are present in the daily life of the deaf person; and whose main authors are their own family members, the school and the health professionals.
