COSTA, Marcelo Henrique da  e  CASTRO, Ricardo Vieiralves de. Children of the cause: memories from children of exiles of the military regime (1964-1985). Trivium [online]. 2015, vol.7, n.2, pp.188-216. ISSN 2176-4891.  https://doi.org/10.18379/2176-4891.2015v2p.188.

The political persecution consequent from the Brazilian military dictatorship (between 1964-1985) has forced many political militants to leave Brazil and look for exile in foreign countries. After setting up a trip in a hurry, they had to take their children still in such young age at that moment with them to overseas, changing their lives. This study intends to investigate who were those children, the "children of the cause", and which memories they have about that eventful period. Based on Social Psychology theories - and some other knowledge areas as well - we've tried to understand which memories were 'built' and which level of inter-subjective partaking were produced. It was investigated memories of their living, their arriving and their adaptation to exile. Their global evaluation of the exile and their evaluation of the political choice of the country were also investigated. Being supported by the rhetorical analysis theories, we've also tried to join speeches together to seek convergences. From the Social Memory perspective, we've tried to link the fragments of the speeches, seeking for a common sense built from the childhood memories in the period of the exile.
