Abstract

PAIXAO, Fernando. Uneasiness of poverties. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2008, vol.31, n.46, pp. 98-100. ISSN 0101-3106.

As a developing country, Brazil, whose population has barely any access to the beneficts of citizenship, it is interesting to observe and evaluate the existing differences between two literary works which mirror this condition: Quarto de despejo, by Carolina Maria de Jesus, and Capão pecado, by Ferréz. With nearly half a century between them, in fact they represent distinct visions of poverty, the former being more naïve and immediate, the latter taking us to a high degree of perversity absent in its predecessor. Sign of times or the transformation of literature?

Keywords : Carolina Maria de Jesus; Ferréz; Contemporary Brazilian literature; Poverty; Brazilian society.
