Abstract

AGUILAR, Gonzalo. Typography and the crack. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2009, vol.32, n.48, pp. 44-49. ISSN 0101-3106.

In this paper printing type is considered as a way of questioning the separation between rationality and madness, according to Michel Foucault’s proposal in his History of madness in classical times. Starting from a series of examples and counter-examples (cubism, Bauhaus, Renaissance Annunciations), the purpose is to show how typography implies the thought of materiality which does not allow itself to be reduced to any kind of idealism.

Keywords : Visual image; Visual poem; Rationality; Sign.
