Abstract

PERRINI, Cleuza Mara Lourenço. Candido Portinari's "The withdrawals": the effort to be human is what makes us alive. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2019, vol.41, n.67-68, pp. 275-281. ISSN 0101-3106.

From Candido Portinari's screen, "The Retirement", we draw an analogy where we are all retreating after the birth cesura, when we step into this post-uterine land and that we are eternal immigrants in search of the promised land. We propose that Portinari groups the family into a physical holding, to give us the dimension of the ongoing emotional and to welcome the pain of the withdrawals, bringing them together in one place to make them a whole. With a clinical vignette and through the lyrics of a song, we move over the ability of healing, as "careful" to think of the structure that allows separation and attachment between internal and external objects rather than fusion or fragmentation.

Keywords : Immigrant; Cure; Holding; Fragmentation.
