Abstract

OLIVEIRA, Solange de. Every gift involves a sacrifice. Ide (São Paulo) [online]. 2020, vol.42, n.70, pp. 119-133. ISSN 0101-3106.

Based on the collection of Sergipe creator José Roberto Freitas, Beto Pezão, we propose a reflection on the relationship between art and friendship, in the ethical and aesthetic spheres. The artist pulls out characters and regional dramas from the dark clay from the banks of the Lower São Francisco River, at the height of his hometown, Santana do São Francisco, in Sergipe state. Among the pieces, the protagonist Sertanejo Pezão is the most celebrated in his collection, in fact, his favorite. The approach used in this work articulates the Aristotelian notion of friendship in the book Ethics to Nicomachus, the confluence of benevolence, mutuality and persistence in the habit of virtue, as requirements for the most fulfilled and everlasting friendship. The amical field, as a value of life, it is an ethical paradigm that resonates in the Political and promotes benevolent relationships, it is a cuddle in the midst of crudeness and loneliness in contemporary times.

Keywords : Beto Pezão; Inherent art; Friendship; Ethics; Politics.
