ABSTRACT In this work, the author, based on the assumption that psychoanalysis identifies with a psychoanalytic function of the mind, and that this means the scientific character of psychoanalytic research, illustrates such research in the life and work of two authors, who, curiously, produce in the same year of 1899 their most significant works: Freud with The Interpretations of Dreams and Conrad with Heart of Darkness.
