This paper deals with the future of Psychoanalysis, firstly if it will or will not have a future. The discussion points out crucial questions on psychoanalytic survival: technology versus fiction (being Freud a writer), pseudo knowledge and unknown theoretical propositions, clinical extension or shrinkage, and so on. The paper is based on notes and in the text of the introductory chapter of A Psique e o Eu (The Psyche and the Self, Herrmann, 1999).
