Abstract

ORSINI, Cecilia Maria de Brito. Reading Freud: a style of transmission. J. psicanal. [online]. 2012, vol.45, n.83, pp. 129-144. ISSN 0103-5835.

This article presents a summary of the author's background as a lecturer of Sigmund Freud's work, starting with a reflection on her experience of reading this work. In a profitable relationship with the literary experience - considering the differences between theory and art - the act of reading is understood as an integrated experience, wherein there is no separation between life, theory and the clinic. From this perspective, the author presents the main means used as support for reading Freud: psychoanalysis dictionaries, biographies, direct translations of the original works in German, introductory notes by James Strachey (the English editor of the complete works of Freud) and other commentators. The job of a commentator of Freud's work is crucial because it sheds light on the importance of reading that needs to be simultaneously vertical and generalized for the successof an approach to a work as complex as that of Freud, for those who require an effective penetration of this work.

Keywords : Freud teaching; Freudian metapsychology; psychoanalytic reading; psychoanalytic clinic; psychoanalysis and literature.
