VIEIRA, Leticia Lima  e  LIMA, Priscilla Melo Ribeiro de. Sublimation and creative writing: approaches with Virginia Woolf. J. psicanal. [online]. 2019, vol.52, n.97, pp. 67-82. ISSN 0103-5835.

The article aims to reflect on the discomfort resulting from helplessness - both ontological and promoted by modernity. Freud reflects on the suffering that has been affecting society since its inception and points out that the conditions for the civilizing process are necessary for sustaining civilization as well as frustrating individuals and imposing suffering. Given the constant sources of suffering, Freud highlights some palliative measures. From this, we consider art, especially literary art, as a possible outline for such orphanhood that embraces the human sphere. We will use Virginia Woolf's writing to investigate and understand how the creative writer uses this palliative measure to try to get around the anguish of helplessness. Despite the impossibility of full happiness highlighted by Freud, we understand that creative writing can function as a psychic arrangement that builds a path to life, to the creation and elaboration of suffering.
