Abstract

CANDI, Talya Saadia. Limit and symbolization: the influence of Winnicott's ideas in the elaboration of André Green's borderline concept. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2011, vol.45, n.4, pp. 119-128. ISSN 0486-641X.

The author presents the dialogue that French psychoanalyst André Green develops with D. W. Winnicott’s work around the notion of transitional space, and shows how the borderline concept emerges from such a dialogue. In the first part of this paper, the author describes the historical and clinical context which brought André Green to raise the notion of borderline to a metapsychological concept, and in the second part, she shows how this concept can be a useful instrument in exploring some aspects of the symbolization process that result from psychoanalytical work.

Keywords : metapsychology; borderline; André Green; transitional space; symbolization.
