Abstract

SOUZA, Audrey Setton Lopes de. Building ways of communication: reviewing the concept of interpretation in psychoanalytic practice with the unrepresented. Rev. bras. psicanál [online]. 2016, vol.50, n.3, pp. 60-75. ISSN 0486-641X.

In psychoanalytic practice, some cases confront us and lead us to impasses. They are situations in which words seem to be unable to send the message that is wanted to be conveyed. We must find alternative ways of listening and interpreting in this field of psychic effects of those traumatic experiences which have not reached a representation. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on these issues by starting from some case studies in the psychoanalytic practice. The author explores the quest for possible ways of communication. She also examines the concept of the analysis as a field where a container (or containable object) is built, and as an experience of recognition and hope - an experience which could not be found in the relation with the initial objects.

Keywords : representable; unrepresentable; night terror; interpretation; symbolization.
