SANTOS, Ivanilza Etelvina dos  and  DIAS, Cristina Maria de Souza Brito. Elderly man: experiencing of roles played during family vital cycle. Aletheia [online]. 2008, n.27, pp. 98-110. ISSN 1413-0394.

The present research had as main objective to investigate the experiencing of roles played by elderly man during family vital cycle. Twelve men participated in the research, six of those were participants of the Reviver Group, from the Open University for Third Age, in a Paulo Afonso´s college, and six were not in that project. They were individually interviewed and after the analysis of interviews content six predominant themes were focused: acquisition phase, raising and development of children, departure of children from home, last phase, perception of elderly-directed treatment through time and what would they like to change in their lives. It can be concluded that the elderly who participate in the Reviver group showed themselves to be more optimistic, with plans for the future and active social life, what did not occur with the other elderly. It is expected that this work can contribute to those interested in oldness and family issues.
