This paper presents the importance of the Theory of Reasoned Action in the study of general attitudes, as well as its relevance in the explanation of several types of behavior. Its assumptions and basic structure have been discussed and the variables in the model have been specified. The application of this theory to the health area has been highlighted through examples of several Brazilian researches
