Abstract

MAGILA, Maria Cristina  and  XAVIER, Gilberto Fernando. Interaction between memory systems and memory processes in humans. Temas psicol. [online]. 2000, vol.8, n.2, pp. 143-154. ISSN 1413-389X.

It seems a consensus nowadays that memory is not a single entity but comprehends multiple independent but interactive brain systems. The first part of this work has examined evidence, favoring the distinction between short-term and long-term memory systems, on one hand, and further subdivisions of the last, on the other. The elaboration of the concept of short-term memory, which led to the idea of working memory, composed itself of multiple systems, has also been discussed, as well as the role of levels of mnemic processing. The second part has presented the major theories concerning the organization of human memory.

Keywords : memory; skills; habits; neuropsychology.
